Grab a cold drink, the TV awaits

- DAVID BERRY

Some sunny summer fools will try to convince you to drink up every drop of the rare and precious heat. We know better, though, which is why we’ve given you an excuse to stay indoors with your air conditioner every day of the week.

Draw the curtains grab an ice cold drink: you’ve got some TV to watch.

SUNDAY TRUE DETECTIVE ( HBO CANADA)

The second edition of the anthology series, starring Vince Vaughn, is a bit more gleaming slick of California grime than the swampy existential musings of the first, but it’s still a great way to sit in the dark and brood about the basic bankruptcy of humans.

MONDAY UNREAL ( LIFETIME CANADA)

While those other schlubs are letting their brains atrophy with the faux-reality of Duck Dynasty and Teen Mom 2, you can work out your sense of superiority with this delightful “behind the scenes” look at a fictional reality show.

TUESDAY ZOO ( CTV)

On the other hand, if turning your brain off is more your summer speed, might we suggest a series where animals have decided to start murdering people across Los Angeles?

WEDNESDAY KEY & PEELE ( COMEDY NETWORK)

While others are laughing their way through beach adventures, you can laugh from the couch as the sharpest satirists in all of sketch comedy mix pointed jabs at race in America today with pure absurdity.

THURSDAY RECTIFY ( SUNDANCE TV)

A perfect respite from the go-go hustle and bustle of those crazy, over-too-soon summer days, Rectify lets you feel every second of Daniel Holden’s painful reinsertion into a society that still hasn’t forgiven him for his brutal crime, whether or not he did it.

FRIDAY KILLJOYS ( SPACE)

This high-energy Canadian series follows a trio of bounty hunters as they track down criminals and dodge a burgeoning war in The Quad (their fancy name for a galaxy full of strange planets and stranger inhabitants). It’ll keep you pale while getting your heart racing.

SATURDAY WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: FIRST DAY OF CAMP ( NETFLIX)

The cult classic movie was the ultimate celebration of just how horrible summer camp can really be, and there’s no indication the clueless campers will be any less ridiculous in the series. What a perfect way to say goodbye to another stultifying Saturday.
