Innisfail’s Jaret Llewellyn struck silver at the Pan Games — one of three water- skiing and wakeboarding medals for Canada on Wednesday.

But for the eight- time Pan Am Games gold medallist, it wasn’t without a bit of controversy that he was denied his ninth.

After leaping 62.1 metres in the ski jump portion of the competition, the former ski jump world record holder was in good shape until Chilean Felipe Miranda — who landed on a Canada goose during one of his three jumps — won a protest and was awarded three additional attempts, one practice and two scored.

Miranda would further the length of his jump and beat Llewellyn by a mere 20.5 points overall in the event, which also includes slalom and trick skiing.

“He did accept those conditions, we all jumped in that,” Llewellyn said of tough waters for all. “I can’t figure out how you can possibly give someone three jumps.”

Llewellyn, who will turn 45 next week, won the trick skiing portion of the event, scoring 10,360 points on two perfect runs. He was fifth in the slalom after falling.

Whitney McClintock ( women’s water- skiing) and Rusty Malinoski ( wakeboarding) each won gold medals on a banner day for Canada.
