Tone it down

-

It is hypocritical of the mayor and administration to crow about the city’s favourable credit rating. When your expenses are met by increasing property taxes ( in my case by 30 per cent) and all available and new charges are increased by any amount the city wishes, then the credit agencies are only too happy to see you as an excellent client. Surely, the mayor, as an economics professor, must see what the credit agencies see as well. A business will never go bankrupt if it has no competition for its product, since what it supplies is covered by the monopoly as well as its ability to dictate to its customers what they are obliged to buy and pay.

It does not help those of us faced with huge tax and fees increases to celebrate the latest credit rating. Perhaps the mayor and administration should tone down their excitement. Zdenek Kutac, Calgary
