Dog outhouses

-

The whole idea of bagging dog excrement is an unmitigated disaster. In every park I visit in Calgary, I see little plastic bags filled with dog dirt beside the pathways or thrown in the grass and bushes.

All we accomplished is an added layer of plastic to an organic substance. I know the organic substance is too plentiful in our parks and contaminates our water at measurable levels in the rivers.

However, we need a better solution.

I propose we create dog outhouse areas in parks that contain the problem and massive fines for dog owners that allow dogs to do business in undesignated public areas.

After all, I’m not allowed to just poop on the grass wherever I feel like it, for the same reason we are trying to contain dog products. We need a new plan. Our parks are getting really ugly. Claudette Lacombe, Calgary
