No charges in Stampede threesome

- CALGARY HERALD

Two police investigations into a sexually explicit video of a parkinglot threesome during the Calgary Stampede are now inactive and no charges have been laid.

Police began investigating after a recording of two men and one woman having sex in an outdoor public place in daylight was posted on the social media site Reddit two weeks ago.

The video of the three people, who are wearing western duds and don’t appear to know they’re being filmed on a mobile phone from a distance, was viewed hundreds of thousands of times and resulted in an explosion of commentary on social media, and news coverage from around the world.

When the video first surfaced, police said it was possible the three people involved in the sex act could be charged with indecent exposure, and the person who shared the recording could be charged with unlawful distribution of intimate images without consent.

Having sex in public falls under indecent exposure and is part of the Criminal Code, while a new law created in April makes it illegal to distribute intimate images without consent, said a police spokesman when the video surfaced.

But earlier this week, police confirmed two investigations into the incident are now inactive and no charges have been laid.

Both investigations could be reopened if new information comes to light, but for now, police don’t antic- ipate laying any charges against the people involved in the sex act, or the person who shared the recording.

Police were unable to provide any further information on why charges were not laid.

After the video went viral, the woman involved was publicly identified and has started appeared publicly at strip clubs in northern Alberta, with posters advertising her involvement in “Trampede.”
