Leave 1950s behind

-

Re: “Raise kids yourself,” Letter, July 30.

JoAnn Jones seems to think anyone who has a child should stay home. This is not the 1950s and there are more families with both parents working and paying their fair share of taxes. Most went to university to get a degree and some have designations and professional careers that pay very well. Should these people who invested money to get this education just quit? Or should people who plan to have children not go to school at all?

The cost of living in Calgary is expensive. Many daycares provide fantastic experiences for children — activities, education and learning how to socialize with other kids. Our kids are excited to go to daycare and the provider we have chosen is fantastic.

The minor increase in the UCCB barely takes a bite out of the cost of daycare. To think that all parents who have kids in daycare will one day ask themselves what happened seems like a stretch. Is a child who goes to daycare going to be worse off than one raised at home? Step off your soapbox. You raise your children how you want and let others raise their children the way they want.
