Art talks and autumn walks

-

if your ideal fall day involves meandering through a new exhibition at one of the city’s premier art galleries, followed by a walk along the river to a cosy French bistro to savour something sweet and indulgent, read on. This weekend marks the start of a new exhibition at the Esker Foundation, the privately funded, non- commercial gallery located on the top floor of the Esker building in Inglewood. Since it opened in 2012, the gallery has become one of the premier art spaces in the city, expansive enough to showcase large- scale installations but with intimate screening rooms for film and projection pieces.

From today until Dec. 20, the gallery features parallel solo exhibitions showcasing Charlotte Moth, who lives and works in Paris, and Celia Perrin Sidarous of Montreal. Originally from the U. K., Moth is described as a

“documentarian,” whose work encompasses film, photography and sculpture, and draws from architecture, archival material and art and film history. Her Calgary exhibition, living images, will include selections of past works as well as a new work — a co- commission between Esker and the Banff Centre. Co- exhibitor Perrin Sidarous also employs photography in her collage and sculptural pieces, selections of which will be displayed at Esker under the title Interiors, Other Chambers. Both shows debut this evening, though the best time to go is tomorrow 1 p. m. when Moth will be presenting a free artist talk. The presentation includes a tour of the living images exhibition, which offers the rare chance to hear straight from the artist what she was thinking.
