Baby’s first art show

-

every stay- at- home parent of an infant knows how the daily routine of diaper changes, feedings, nap times, bath times, etc., leaves little time and space for intellectually stimulating discourse. But take heart, dear parents: the Esker Foundation has a new way for you to have your baby and your intellect, too. Starting this month, the non- commercial gallery on the top floor of the Esker building in Inglewood is hosting Bring The Baby Art Tours, a relaxed social gathering for the stroller set to engage in a guided viewing of the current exhibition, followed by a discussion in the lantern, the sunny nook in the gallery’s northwest corner. The tours happen on the first Friday of each month, from noon to 12: 30 p. m. Registration is recommended, though walkins won’t be denied.

Bring The Baby shouldn’t be confused with Esker’s popular Mini Masters program, a hands- on art class and gallery hang- out for kids under five and their parents/ guardians that is offered on the first Thursday of the month ( registration for that one is compulsory to plan for an appropriate amount of art supplies). In fact, it was feedback from parents whose charges were too young for Mini Masters that spawned the idea for Bring the Baby.

The Esker’s current exhibition, which runs until May 8, features the work of the late Canadian modernist painter Jack Bush ( 1909- 1977), including five works that have never before been exhibited in Canada, as well as the work of contemporary Canadian artist Colleen Heslin, winner of the prestigious 2013 RBC Painting Competition.
