Single-family, development finalists

- JOSH SKAPIN

Broadview Homes and Jayman Built lead this year’s list of contenders for finalist entries in single-family home categories at the Calgary Region SAM Awards.

The Canadian Home Builders Association-Urban Development Institute Calgary Region Association SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards is an annual competition that recognizes top performances in housing, community development, renovation, marketing and sales. Winners will be announced during a gala at the Telus Convention Centre on April 16.

Broadview’s six finalists are the most of any company in singlefamily home categories in this year’s competition.

“We have very talented and creative people that are constantly striving to raise the bar from previous years,” says Broadview’s vice-president Peter-John Woolf. “Another thing that we strive to do in regards to show homes is bring something brand new to the parade, which can be a bit of gamble if it’s not well received, but so far it has paid off for Broadview Homes.”

Three of Broadview’s finalists are from Harmony, a new community in Springbank that launched sales last year, including two in the running for Best New Home $720,000 to $849,999. Housing award categories refer to the cost of the home only, not including lot. Broadview’s other entries are in Evanston, Ravenswood and Kinniburgh.

Jayman follows with five finalists. This includes a strong presence in the class for Best New Home $425,000-$484,999, where the company has entries from Auburn Bay, Symons Gate and Mahogany. Jayman has a second finalist from Mahogany competition in another category and one in Evanston, as well.

Morrison Homes, which won Builder of the Year at last year’s competition, and Shane Homes are next with four finalists each. Brookfield Residential, which leads the finalist count in all SAM categories with 18, has three singlefamily category finalists.

Morrison has two shortlisted in Mahogany and one each from Symons Gate and Nolan Hill. Its Symons Gate placing is the Henderson, which opened as a show home in the community last year.

Shane has two from Redstone contending in the category for Best New home up to $274,999. Both entries, the Wysteria and Ventura, are on display as show homes in the community. Shane’s other two are in Nolan Hill and the southwest community West Grove Point.

All three of Brookfield’s placings came in the category for Best New Home $325,000-$374,999, with two from Symons Gate and one in Auburn Bay.

A former Grand SAM winner leads all companies for finalist entries in multi-family development categories at this year’s Calgary area housing awards.

Bucci Developments paces the multi-family class for the 2015 Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Urban Development Institute Calgary Region Association SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards with seven entries up for awards. The B.C.-based company was crowned Multi-Family Builder of the Year at the Calgary region SAMs in 2008 and 2011.

“Bucci is very pleased to be the most nominated multi-family developer at the upcoming Calgary SAM awards,” writes vice-presi- dent Mike Bucci in an email. Winners from this year’s competition will be announced during a gala event at the Telus Convention Centre on April 16.

“Building upon our previous success, including being announced multi-family builder of the year twice at past awards, this new achievement recognizes our team’s commitment to excellence in urban living,” Bucci says. “We support the recognition of excellence in our industry, and we are excited to attend the awards next month.”

All of Bucci’s nods were earned by its concrete project Radius, which is part of inner-city Bridgeland.

It’s on the shortlist for trophies in the categories of Apartment Style Condo up to 699 square feet, and three times apiece in Apartment Style Condo 700 square feet to 899 square feet and for 900 square feet and over.

Bucci is also up for an award in advertising and marketing and another for sales and information centres.

Following Bucci was Jayman Modus, which steps in with six finalists for multi-family housing trophies.

Jayman Modus was the runnerup for last year’s multi-family title after helping Jayman Group of Companies earn top spot the year before. Its finalists represent four developments, including Carnaby Heights in Nolan Hill, Overture in Currie, The Rise in Riversong and Ebony in Mahogany. Two of Overture’s entries placed as finalists for Best Apartment Style Condo-Two Bedrooms and Up.

Five companies have four finalist entries each for multi-family housing awards, including Remington Development Corp., Hopewell Residential, Brad Remington Homes and Avi Urban.

Calbridge won Multi- Family Builder of the Year through the last competition.

It has three nods for Best Villa/ Duplex $375,000 and over, with one for the builder’s Chardonnay plan and two separate submissions for its Bordeaux II villa.

Remington Development’s Corp.’s finalists all belong to projects in Quarry Park. Three are from its Champagne development and the other represents The Gates.

Hopewell Residential’s Chalet No6 townhome development in Copperfield accounts for three of the company’s nods in multi-family categories, while the fourth comes from Sandgate in Mahogany.
