Two communities help Brookfield lead development entries

- JOSH SKAPIN

Symons Gate and Riverstone of Cranston have propelled Brookfield Residential to the finalist lead in development categories at this year’s Calgary area residential awards.

This is the 29th year of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Urban Development Institute Calgary Region Association SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards. Trophies for this year’s competition will be handed out during an event at the Telus Convention Centre on April 16. The competition honours top showings in housing, community development, renovation, marketing and sales.

Brookfield has four entries in line for community development awards, which is the most of any company in the segment. Southeast Calgary’s Riverstone of Cranston and Symons Gate, which opened sales on the northwest end last year, have two finalist entries apiece.

“We’re incredibly proud of our communities and these nominations really are exciting,” says Jessie Seymour, senior customer relations manager, Calgary communities.

“Symons Gate and Riverstone are both remarkable places for Calgarians to call home, but I think the secret has been our thoughtfulness toward our community development. We have listened so much over our last 58 years in Calgary and the communities we build reflect what we hear from our residents. When you listen to your customers, you will always deliver something great.”

Riverstone of Cranston is a contender for Community of the Year-City of Calgary, and Symons Gate is on the short list for New Community of the Year. Both are finalists for Show Home Parade of the Year. For show home parade honours, they share the contenders list with Riviera of Riversong by Tamani Communities, Watermark at Bearspaw by Macdonald Development Corp. and Hopewell Residential’s Mahogany Island.

One of the contenders for the City of Calgary’s community of the year title is a familiar face in the category. Mahogany has won the award three years in a row and is a finalist once again.

“Ultimately the reason we’re up for this award again is the same reason that we continue to be the best-selling community in Calgary — there is simply no better combination of amenities, builders and homes in the city, period, let alone at such a competitive price,” says Scott Hamilton, director, marketing and customer experience at Hopewell.

“It truly is the best that this city has to offer in the way of new communities, and is perennially popular because people absolutely adore living there. All it takes is one visit and most buyers won’t want to go anywhere else.”

Qualico Communities has two finalists in the running for this award with Evanston in northwest Calgary and Redstone on the northeast end. WestCreek Developments is also contending with Legacy in the southeast.

For the top new community award, the only other finalist is Southwinds by Mattamy Homes.

Southwinds shows up again as a finalist for Community of the YearCalgary Region.

It’s one of two Airdrie representatives in the mix, along with Qualico’s Ravenswood community. The rest of the list belongs to Cochrane, with Riversong, The Willows and Fireside in the running. Fireside and the Willows are both communities master-planned by La Vita Land.
