Auburn Bay tops for building permits
Multi-family demand seen in lake community
A southeast Calgary lake community led the city in demand for multi-family housing for the second month in a row.
Auburn Bay topped all ends of Calgary in building permits for multi-family housing in February, says the city’s planning and development department. The community by Brookfield Residential ended the month with 12 permits, matching its city-leading total from January.
Multi-family housing is comprised of attached housing such as the duplexes, townhomes and apartment-style condos.
Seeing strong demand in Auburn Bay is no surprise, says Morrison Homes marketing director Sam Hudson.
“Auburn Bay is a place where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city with a gorgeous four-season fresh water lake as well as parks, pathways and green spaces throughout,” says Hudson. “But it also has easy access to the rest of the city, which is something Calgarians are looking for.”
Morrison recently launched pre-constructions sales on duplexes in the community. Brookfield and Homes by Avi are also building in this segment of Auburn Bay.
“It’s a friendly, vibrant and playful community, and the price is definitely right for multi-family homes like our new duplexes,” Hudson adds. “Plus, Auburn House puts together a great program of events and activities that really bring the community together.”
Also on the multi-family front in Auburn Bay are apartment-style condos by Avi Urban, Cardel Lifestyles and Stone-Croft.
Following Auburn Bay’s permit activity was Saddle Ridge in northeast Calgary and Mahogany, which is another lake community in the southeast. Saddle Ridge had eight applications for multi-family building permits. Mahogany by Hopewell Residential, which led last month’s count on single-family building permit applications, had five for multi-family in February.
Next in line were six inner-city communities with two multifamily building permit applications each: Altadore, Montgomery, Parkhill, South Calgary, Windsor Park and Winston Heights.
