Let Flames build their own facility
Re: “Arena plan hits $1.8B hurdle,” April 21.
The Saddledome is still in good shape and is very profitable.
If the Flames and the NHL would like to have a better arena, they should build it and own it.
The NHL got a $5-billion contract with Rogers just over two years ago, so maybe it is time to spend some of it on infrastructure, and not to split the dough between the owners and the players, while asking people who pay ridiculous money to see a game to bring their own chairs — which is what it seems like if public money is used.
