- JOSH SKAPIN

Renova Luxury Renovations went on a run at the recent Calgary Region SAM Awards.

The company, which rebranded from Albi Renova, not only paced all renovators in finalists and category wins at the recent Calgary area residential awards competition, it also took home the segment’s grand prize.

Renova was named Renovator of the Year at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Urban Development Institute Calgary Region Association SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards. Winners from the 2015 competition were unveiled during an event at the Telus Convention Centre on April 16.

Renovator of the Year is one of five Grand SAMs, which are the event’s major awards. Others include Broadview Homes winning Builder of the Year, Avi Urban for Multi-family Builder of the Year McKinley Masters for Builder of Merit and Wildwood Cabinets for Partner of the Year.

“I want to see something different,” says Renova president and managing partner Brian Maurer on his approach to renovation. “I don’t want cookie cutter. I think that’s the key. Really good designs.”

Renova is a multiple winner of the top renovator award, last earning the title in 2013. It was also runner-up to Ultimate Renovations in 2014.

At the recent competition, Renova also earned three renovation category wins. It picked up awards for Best Home Renovations with Addition for its Bayview Transformation submission, Best Kitchen Renovation Up to $89,999 for Scenic Acres Interior Improvement, and Best Kitchen Renovation $90,000 and Over for the Patterson Interior Improvement entry.

“The transformations on these places is incredible,” says Maurer. “That’s the case for everyone that entered, but it boils down to the fine details. And the details really make the difference on any project.”

Renova also led all renovation companies in finalist entries with seven.

Kon- Strux Developments, which was the only other company to win in multiple renovation categories, was runner-up for the Renovator of the Year Award. It won for Best Renovator’s Choice Renovation and Best Bathroom/Ensuite Renovation.

Other finalists for the top renovator title include Ultimate Renovations, Hearth and Home Fireplace and Home Renovations, and Astoria Projects.
