1 Mind-blowing discussions Calgary Expo isn’t just about star-spotting. This is serious stuff. So if you are feeling particularly academic, scour the schedule for some mind-expanding, and often wonderfully geeky, conversations. Here are some suggestions: Who’s the Idiot Now? Reconsidering Weird Al Yankovic’s ‘Canadian Idiot’ (Friday at 2:15 p.m. in Room 100A); History of Firearms and their Evolution in North America (Friday, 5:15 p.m. in Palomino C); Dear Zombie Apocalypse — Thank You For Not Happening ... Yet (Saturday, 1 p.m., Palomino FG) and Medical Breakthroughs Inspired by Science Fiction (Sunday, 1:15 p.m., Palomino FG) 2 One-on-one with notable actors Beyond the William Shatners and Stan Lees are some fascinating thespians who will be sitting down to discuss their careers. Check out Harry Potter/The Patriot/Peter Pan actor Jason Isaacs at the Stampede Corral Friday at 5:45 p.m.; versatile actor Alan Tudyk of Firefly, Arrested Development and Dollhouse will be speaking Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Corral; and Oswald Cobblepot himself, Robin Lord Taylor, Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Corral. 3 Battlestar Galactica panel If you miss TV’s Peabody Award-winning sci-fi cautionary tale (and who doesn’t), check out Friday’s 7 p.m. discussion with stars Katee Sackhoff, Tahmoh Penikett and Grace Park. 4 Orange is the New Black Jackie Cruz and Lea DeLaria will talk about the women’s prison comedydrama on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at the Boyce Theatre. 5 Blood Riders: The Devil Rides With Us If you want to end your Expo experience with a nice and relaxing film screening, Blood Riders may not be for you.
