A MILESTONE IN LEGACY
Building of first school set to begin
The city’s reigning community of the year has added new show homes and is about to break ground on its first school.
Shovels are expected to turn this month for construction on a school for students in Grades 10 to 12 through the Calgary Catholic School District in Legacy, says the community’s developer, WestCreek Developments.
The school is slated to open in fall 2018 and have the capacity for 1,500 students.
It will be located on Legacy Village Road, which overlooks an environmental reserve in the community.
Legacy was named Community of the Year-City of Calgary at the Cal- gary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards earlier this year.
Getting the first school in the ground will be an important milestone for the community, says Kalida Goldade, marketing manager for WestCreek.
“Your family can grow here,” says Goldade.
“You’re going to have a school for that child’s entire life when you move into this community.”
Legacy has three other future schools sites, including one earmarked for a K-9 through CCSD, along with an elementary school and junior high school through the Calgary Board of Education, says the developer.
The community has estate and move- up single- family homes, duplexes, townhomes and condos.
In July, Legacy extended its lineup of move-up builders, adding Jayman Built to an existing group of Calbridge Homes, Stepper Homes, Sterling Homes, Trico Homes and WestCreek Homes.
Jayman’s new show homes are the 1,905-square-foot Maderno and the 2,528-square-foot Emerge 28. They both have three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
“Our two show home models represent both old favourites and new, innovative plans,” says Jenn Underwood, area manager for Jayman.
“The Emerge 28, with its caterer’s pantry and walk-through laundry room, is a favourite, and for good reason. The Maderno, meanwhile, has never been built as a show home until now. We know you’ll love its developed basement and open concept floor plan.”
This is the second segment for Jayman in Legacy, which is already selling a townhome development in the community.
Move-up show homes in the community are on Legacy Link, and Legacy Lane.
Other builders in the community include Morrison Homes, Calbridge Homes and Albi Luxury by Brookfield Residential in the estate segment, and Creations by Shane Homes and Trico Homes building duplexes.
Then there’s Trico, Aldebaran Homes and Jayman with townhomes and Brad Remington Homes and Carlisle Group building condos.
Legacy is accessed off 210 Ave. S.E. and features 121 hectares of developer-protected environmental reserve and 15 km of paved walking paths.
The community is also planned to include a shopping district stretching more than 800,000 square feet, with restaurants, retail and office space.
