Corb Lund thrills fans at garage sale

This weekend was a once-in-a-lifetime event for fans of an Alberta country music star.

Corb Lund, whose Hurtin’ Albertans have produced seven critically acclaimed albums, welcomed fans into a garage in Ramsay from Friday through Sunday, selling off old pieces of memorabilia from tours past, including stickers, T-shirts and signed 45s.

Lund, who is no stranger to these events, having held one in Edmonton a couple of years ago, said it started as a way to clean out his basement of stuff he simply can’t use, but it’s become much more.

“It’s a bit overwhelming really. Everyone tells me where they saw me last. It’s been a range of places.

“It’s been Australia, Texas, a couple of guys from England told me they saw me there last. And, of course, all of Canada.”

Lund also serenaded the crowd with some of his hits as they looked through his wares.

One superfan, Melina Abraham, heard about the event as she was getting ready to visit her parents in Calgary, and it made the trip from Vancouver even more exciting.

“I’m a huge fan. It happened to be the right days,” she said.

“I’ve been a fan for 10 or 12 years now, since his Five Dollar Bill album.”

For many fans, Lund’s love of his home province is what sets him apart from other strummers and singers, and he is often first in line to lend a hand whenever Alberta is in need.

Earlier this year, Lund was part of a headlining quartet alongside Nickelback, Blue Rodeo and Dean Brody in a concert fundraiser for families following the Fort McMurray wildfires.
