Rough water: It’s been a wild and wacky two days at Lagoa Stadium, where winds have caused havoc for Olympic rowers, forcing the cancellation of races Sunday.

“Rocky, entertaining and adventure,” is how Trinidad and Tobago rower Felice Chow described the course after the women’s single sculls heats Saturday. “The conditions were really, really rough.”

“I was pretty close to sinking out there,” Australian athlete Kimberley Brennan said, “which would generally be an indication that the course isn’t rowable.”

The Serbian men’s pair of Milos Vasic and Nenad Bedik capsized during their 500-metre heat Saturday, becoming the first Olympic crew to fall into the water since a women’s pair at the 2004 Games in Athens.

Egyptian rower Nadia Negm said it was lucky more rowers didn’t end up in the lagoon.

“It was intense,” she said. “Halfway through the course, this huge wave just went into my boat. It went all the way up to my face … in the end I kind of feel like a Viking coming out of it.”

New Zealand’s Hamish Bond, a member of the men’s pairs, described it this way: “If I could give an educational likeness, it’s probably like walking down some stairs and when you’re mid-stride, the step gets three times the height. You go to take a step and you’re taking three steps all at once. Or maybe skiing with a blindfold on.” Disturbance of another sort: Rowdy table tennis fans were urged to behave Sunday when their support for Brazilian Lin Gui — and boos for her Spanish opponent Galia Dvorak — got out of hand.

Gui herself motioned to the crowd and asked them to quiet down.

“Table tennis is a sport where you have to be quiet, they have to focus and there are three other tables playing, and I thought it wasn’t right to disturb the others because of me,” she said.

Dvorak, who lost the match 4-2, was gracious.

“It’s not what we are used to in table tennis, but I would not say it really affected me,” she said.
