Global Security on Agenda
Discussions attract top decision makers
This year marks the 26th annual CHANGING FORTUNES Round Table and the 41st anniversary of Spruce Meadows.
The Round Table provides strategic perspectives to decision makers on topical subjects that are integrative in nature, comprehensive in scope, anticipatory in timing and apolitical in approach.
The objective, after opening statements from our marquee speaker, is to engage in round table dialogue with delegates representing leadership from global commerce and the body politic.
This format of plenary sessions gives delegates a knowledgeable and creative view of the subjects discussed to help in decision making at their own corporations and public sector recommendations.
Past Round Tables have focused on many aspects of globalization, including energy, economies, trade, defence, aviation, central and commercial banking, manufacturing, innovation and, last year, global risks.
For 2016, we have selected the theme of global security, a topical and timely subject for all our delegates.
Recent geopolitical developments have certainly added to, and are accelerating, the risk profiles of corporations and governments themselves as we strive to better understand the new risks brought about by international events and policy changes.
Delegates to the 2016 CHANGING FORTUNES Round Table will welcome the return of 2015 CHANGING FORTUNES marquee speaker Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, German Minister of Defence and member of the German Bundestag to lead the discussions on global security.
Indeed, global security is a natural progression from last year’s theme of global risks.
Dr. von der Leyen took over leadership of the Ministry of Defence on Dec. 17, 2013. She previously served as Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s first cabinet (20052009). Von der Leyen was Minister for Labour and Social Affairs in the second Merkel government (2009-2013). In December 2010, she was elected a Deputy Chairwoman of the Christian Democratic Union at the party’s 23rd congress in Karlshuhe.
The CHANGING FORTUNES Round Table on Sept. 9 promises to be a memorable one.
