TELUS HELPS OUT IN MANY ROLES AT SPRUCE MEADOWS
Whether it’s for the brilliance, drama and tradition of the horse sports or for the festive spirit of its International Christmas Markets, Spruce Meadows is a destination for all ages, for all reasons, and for all seasons.
For decades, TELUS has been a valuable partner with Spruce Meadows, standing with the iconic venue in a variety of ways that appeal to all and span the entire calendar. Spruce Meadows is grateful to have this leading national telecommunications company as a long-time partner.
Through sun and snow, day and night, coast to coast to coast, front of house and back of house, TELUS is here.
“The entire TELUS team is extraordinarily proud of our relationship with Spruce Meadows and it has always been our tremendous honour to sponsor, attend and volunteer at all of the exceptional events that comprise the Summer Series and ‘Masters’ tournaments,” says Andrea Goertz, chief communications and sustainability officer at TELUS.
“Spruce Meadows has established an incredible legacy that continues to serve as a sense of pride for Calgarians, Albertans and Canadians. We are grateful for the long-standing partnership between TELUS and Spruce Meadows and we look forward to continuing to grow that partnership.”
In 2014, TELUS took the reins of the immensely popular TELUS Name the Foal and instantly caught the attention of the fans at Spruce Meadows and across the country.
Each day throughout the Summer Series, and again at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’, three young foals are presented to amuse fans with their antics, kicking, playful personalities and keen desire to find their stride.
The popular contest, which attracts up to 100,000 suggested names from across the country annually, presents winners with a trip to the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament in September. Winners also have their names etched on their foal’s stable plaque. The three foals are typically Hanoverians — the Spruce Meadows’ official breed — and are named following the Hanoverian naming tradition, using the first letter of the sire’s name.
This year contest winners Lisa Mander of Ladner, B.C. with No Limits, Lorraine Fletcher of Port Ryerse, Ont. with Vintage, and Diane Irwin of Caledon, Ont. with Counterpoint, will travel to the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’.
Following the ‘Masters’ the focus shifts to the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market. The market, held over three weekends beginning in November, has become a huge success thanks in part to sponsor TELUS.
From art and photography to jewelry and baked goods and fashion, the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market, presented by TELUS becomes a world of sparkling lights, outdoor firepits, and music for all ages as visitors stroll throughout the venues, down Reindeer Alley and through Candy Cane Lane.
With more than 250 vendors displaying imported and handcrafted goods, shoppers are guaranteed to find that perfect gift; all of this, against an enchanting backdrop of choirs, spectacular seasonal decor and dance groups.
The TELUS Spruce Meadows partnership truly spans the entire calendar as well as every nook and cranny of the Spruce Meadows grounds. Complimentary cellular phone charging stations, public Wi-Fi and TELUS volunteer initiatives are other much appreciated elements of this cherished relationship.
“At TELUS we are firm believers and committed to the notion that we ‘Give Where We Live,’ ” adds Goertz.
“This year the TELUS team will be on site at Spruce Meadows throughout the entire year. We could be cheering on the horses and riders, meeting the foals, enjoying the International Christmas Market, or putting our volunteers to work during the TELUS Day of Giving or for the Spruce Meadows Run Series.”
TELUS values its partnership with Spruce Meadows and the feeling is mutual, providing all of the ingredients for a friendly future.
