Prompt health care needed by everyone
Re: “Injured workers avoid wait lists for surgery,” Sept. 21.
Why has it taken someone such as reporter Tom Blackwell this long to get to the truth of our so-called universal health-care system?
If workers’ compensation can fast-track their people to surgery, why can’t we seniors not form an organization to demand the same treatment for us?
And why not a group of stay-at-home mothers, who can hardly afford to wait the time it now takes?
Most of us would gladly pay the $600 to get the surgery before we are completely bedridden.
I am an ordinary middleincome senior who personally knows of two people who have travelled to Arizona and paid thousands of dollars of their own money for surgery apparently not available for them in Canada. Too bad they were not covered by workers’ compensation. Lucille Hendrix, Calgary
