SACRAMENTO MAYOR PUMMELS PIE PROTESTER

- The Washington Post

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson got his dessert early. The former NBA AllStar was hosting a benefit dinner Wednesday night when one of the attendees smashed a t pie in the mayor’s face.

“It was a half-punch, half-pie,” UFC fighter Urijah Faber said. Johnson reportedly didn’t realize what had happened at first. But when the alleged attacker said something to him, Johnson — covered in whipped cream — fought back.

Witnesses said the 6-foot-1 ex-athlete landed five to 10 blows to the man’s face before backing off — beating him to a “bloody pulp,” in the words of a witness.

After the incident, Johnson got a change of clothes and apologized to the party of about 200 people from the podium, drawing applause.
