W5 50th Anniversary Special
A week before Canada’s pre-eminent investigative series launches its 51st season under new host and managing editor Kevin Newman, veteran host and chief correspondent Lloyd Robertson takes the lead in this one-hour special that guides viewers on a nostalgic yet powerful journey through the history of this show since its premiere on Sept. 11, 1966. The special includes key moments from the W5 archives that have driven the show’s role as a vital Canadian whistleblower and storyteller. (CTV, CTV Two)
HIGH MAINTENANCE
Lee Tergesen (The Americans) and Amy Ryan (The Office) guest star in a new episode called Museebat, as Leo and Gigi, a jaded couple whose birthday bash for him requires a delivery from The Guy (Ben Sinclair). Elsewhere, a girl (Shazi Raja) living with her Brooklyn-based aunt and uncle finds their conservative religious values standing in the way of a “normal” college experience. (HBO Canada)
HOW IT’S MADE: DREAM CARS
Car lovers might want to join the How It’s Made crew as they go to the birthplace of the high-performance supercar, the Zenvo ST1, designed and built in Denmark. Production began in 2009, but only 15 cars were made and sold. That supercar received less than favourable reviews from Top Gear — but that wasn’t the case with the car featured in the second episode: the McLaren 650S, which was introduced at the 2014 Geneva car show. With a price ranging from $287,000 to $305,500 and a top speed of 333 km/ h, it likely isn’t practical for everyday use. (Discovery)
GUY’S GROCERY GAMES
In Guy’s Superstar Grocery Games: Part 4, our esteemed host challenges the five remaining contestants to what seems to be an impossible task — make a gourmet entree using only the favourite snack foods of Guy Fieri’s son (popcorn and mac anybody?). (Food Network)
