ASIRT launches two probes into shooting

-

An officer-involved shooting in Dover last week has led to two separate investigations by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.

The first investigation was launched on Nov. 3 after a man was shot in the 3800 block of 30 Ave. S.E.

Calgary police Chief Roger Chaffin told reporters after the incident that officers pulled into the back alley and got out to approach a stolen Honda Civic, resulting in an altercation with the person inside. One officer was dragged and injured by the stolen vehicle, and another officer opened fire, hitting the driver.

According to ASIRT, a second investigation was launched on Nov. 4 into the actions of two other police officers while the suspect was being arrested. That probe is focusing on the force used on the driver as he was removed from the vehicle.

“It is not believed that the use of force caused any additional injury to the man who remains in hospital as a result of gunshot wounds received from the officer-involved shooting,” ASIRT said in a news release Monday.

Calgary police said all available in-car video was provided to ASIRT following the shooting on Nov. 3.

After ASIRT reviewed the video, they informed CPS that a second investigation would be launched into the conduct of two officers.

It is not believed that the use of force caused any additional injury to the man who remains in hospital.
