While a large percentage of Canadians will be watching the U.S. election results, which are being covered on all major U.S. broadcast and cable networks as well as the CBC, there are a couple of alternatives for those looking for a more upbeat way to spend the evening. Dustin Hoffman earned his seventh Oscar nomination for this 1997 comedy as a movie producer who gets the project of a lifetime. When a sex scandal threatens to topple the president of the United States, a savvy spin-meister (Robert De Niro) suggests distracting his opponents and the public with a war. It won’t be the real thing, but with the right Hollywood talent, it could be played out in the media convincingly. (Encore)
AFTERMATH
More tense than relaxing is this new episode from the apocalyptic drama titled What the Thunder Said. With volcanic Mount Rainier threatening to erupt at any moment, a mysterious figure tells Karen, Joshua (Anne Heche, James Tupper) and their family that their only salvation lies back on that same deadly mountain. Maybe they should ask for a second opinion? (Space)
MYSTERIES AT THE MUSEUM
The new episode of the Don Wildman series that tells the stories behind some of the extraordinary items housed in U.S. museums introduces a glass vial filled with a salve that was used to wage a battle against a medical nightmare; a colourful canvas that hides an artful truth; and a boot that was worn during a notorious murder that shook a small town.
