Nothing to fear in Trump victory, world Muslim leader says

A world-renowned Muslim cleric is dismissing the campaign rhetoric of Donald Trump, a day after the real estate mogul was elected as the next president of the United States.

During his visit to the Baitun Nur Mosque in Calgary, His Holiness, Caliph Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said the inflammatory language used by Trump during his election campaign, including calling for a ban on all Muslims from entering the United States, is simply not going to happen.

The Caliph also quashed the notion that there will be a backlash against Muslims in the days following the shocking election results.

“Americans have voted him to lead them. I don’t think we have anything to fear. I don’t think Americans as a whole will suddenly rise up against Muslims,” he said.

“I don’t think whatever he said will be implemented. I don’t think any sane person can take that step,” the Caliph added.

In his run to the Oval Office Trump had publicly called for the “total and complete shut down” of Muslims entering the U.S , with many in the Muslim community fearing it becoming a reality once he got into power..

Caliph Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said his people, who study a religion based on peace and understanding, shouldn’t be fearful over such an outlandish statement.

The Caliph added Trump seemingly mellowed during his victory speech, which he believes bodes well for not just Muslims, but for all Americans and those around the world. “His attitude has suddenly changed overnight. He went from saying Clinton should be locked up, to calling her an asset to the country,” he said.
