Citing recent cancellations of events and the growing East Village community, organizers of the annual Stampede Roundup fundraising concerts have announced plans to move from their longtime location at Fort Calgary to an as-yet unannounced new site.

The event, which is held in mid-July, is one of the biggest corporate parties of the year and has in the past featured performances by such acts as The Tragically Hip, Bryan Adams and, this past year, Kiss, The Cult and Moist. Monies raised go toward programs in the community, including the Stay In School Program, Feed The Hungry Calgary, services for seniors and the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway.

“Fort Calgary has been a fabulous home for the Stampede Roundup and we have nothing but the greatest

We have nothing but the greatest respect for the entire team at Fort Calgary.

respect for the entire team at Fort Calgary. However, we’ve determined the site is no longer compatible to our event needs,” Caitlin Boyle, executive producer of the Stampede Roundup, said in a statement before referencing the 2015 X-Fest and this year’s Oxford Stomp event, which were cancelled due to the damage heavy rains caused the site.

“With the cancellation of two large-scale events at this location in the past two years, the site no longer provides the infrastructure or site conditions necessary to pull off large-scale events in poor weather conditions.

“The safety, security and event experience for our event attendees is our top priority, and we are very excited to start a new chapter at a new location.”

The new site of the Stampede Roundup will be announced in the coming months.
