A woman was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition after she was stabbed in Coral Springs on Thursday.

Acting Staff Sgt. Travis Juska said police received a 911 call from a 10-year-old girl at the residence in the 100 block of Coral Springs at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Upon entering the house, officers witnessed the stabbing taking place.

Juska said the quick thinking and actions of CPS officers potentially saved the woman’s life.

Police say the attack left the unidentified woman in critical condition. A neighbour told Postmedia that a man was handcuffed and escorted from the scene.

The victim and the assailant were known to each other, police said.

Next door neighbour Van Trieu said she was in shock to see such a scene unfold from her own home.

“I heard a noise, so I checked it out from my upstairs window. I saw running around and I thought, ‘Oh my god, something has happened,’” she said. Trieu adds the woman in the house also had a young daughter who was running outside in her pyjamas, but was quickly helped by a crew of construction workers a few houses down. Another neighbour told Postmedia the scene was very hectic.

“I heard a lot of yelling and there were two siding installers running around the house yelling. One was carrying a hammer,” he said.

“Then a young girl who I think lives there came out screaming and a couple of people tried to calm her down. But finally, the person who was getting his house sided three doors down took her back to his house,” he added.

Police have yet to announce if any charges have been laid in the incident.
