Stunning 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO could be priciest car ever sold

- CLAYTON SEAMS

A British Ferrari dealer has quietly listed a blue 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO on its site, along with an asking price of £45 million. At current exchange rates that works out to about US$56 million.

What do you get for your money?

Well, you get a race-bred six-carb V12 wrapped in one of the prettiest aluminum bodies ever made. This GTO was actually the second GTO made, and it scored impressive finishes at the Sebring 12 Hour and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

It won its last race, the Nassau Tourist Trophy, in 1965. If the dealer gets anywhere near its asking price, the 250 GTO will eclipse the GTO that sold in 2014 for $38.1 million and the sexy 335 Sport that sold for $35.7 million in February of this year.

Rumours swirled that in 2013 a GTO was sold privately, behind closed doors (as they almost always are) for a staggering $52 million. Could this car break all records? It might very well be the most valuable car in the world. Driving.ca
