PANTHERS AT FLAMES GAME DAY

-

Florida Panthers (20-17-8) at Calgary Flames (23-20-3) 7 p.m., Sportsnet West, Sportsnet 960 The Fan

Who To Watch

Flames: D Dougie Hamilton Remember those trade rumours from back in November? Good thing they were just rumours. The 23-yearold blue-liner is on a three-game point streak with a goal and three assists. Not only did he showcase his shutdown skills in that span, but Hamilton’s impact on the Flames power play — and his shot — have been valuable. Hamilton had four shots on net in Friday’s 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Hamilton and his defence partner, Mark Giordano, have developed some nice chemistry since being paired together back in November and it’s finally paying off.

Panthers: RW Jaromir Jagr Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Tuesday could be the last time the enigmatic 44-year-old mullet will be in Calgary. No, really. Well, maybe. Who knows with Jagr, who recently said he was going to “work every day” to play until he is 50-years-old. And, given the Czech winger’s unique and gruelling training regimen, no one would be surprised. He’s still one of the best in the game; his goal on Saturday lifted the Panthers over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jagr averages 17:07 of ice time a night and has proven he’s still a factor, currently tied for second in team points (eight goals and 19 assists) with 27.

Set-up Notes

Monday’s practice at the Saddledome was delayed about 45 minutes due to an ice issue below the goal-line in the home end. It was crummy timing for the 1,400 school kids in attendance as part of the Team Giordano initiative. Calgary’s captain, Mark Giordano, grabbed a microphone and greeted the students during the delay and then a blooper reel played on the big screen to keep the youngsters entertained … Flames LW Micheal Ferland, who has missed two contests after tweaking his knee, was a full participant in Monday’s practice and hopes to be back in action against the Predators. “I feel good,” Ferland said. “I think I’m ready to go. We’ll just see how everything goes.” … Flames RW Garnet Hathaway didn’t skate Monday and the team is awaiting results of further tests on his upper-body injury ... The Panthers recalled D Dylan McIlrath from his conditioning assignment with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds … The Panthers have won five of their last eight games as they begin their four-game swing through Western Canada, starting with Tuesday’s clash in Calgary … C Vincent Trocheck has recorded 13 points (six goals and seven assists) in his last 10 games. He’ll be representing the Panthers at the 2016 NHL All Star game in Los Angeles … G Roberto Luongo needs seven victories to surpass G Curtis Joseph for sole possession of fourth place on the NHL’s all-time wins list … Panthers captain C Derek MacKenzie is two games shy of 500 of his career … RW Jaromir Jagr is five points shy of 1,900 for his career. With his 45th birthday less than a month away, the legend continues. He’s played 1,674 regular-season games, scored 757 goals and 1,138 assists in that impressive span … Tuesday is the first of two meetings between the Flames and Panthers, with the second clash happening Feb. 24 at BB & T Center.
