Animal The fivesome will be bringing their brand of garage rock to the big Texas music showcase. Saturday: Calgary Beer Core’s tribute to Alice in Chains The grunge band survived lead singer Layne Staley’s death in 2002, but caught most of its acclaim during the Seattle rise of the early 1990s. Local band Dirt, named after Alice in Chain’s second album and in charge of the tribute tunes, plays only Staley material. Wednesday: Avital Meets Avital Avi, a Grammy-nominated classical mandolinis­t, and Omer, a jazz bassist and oud player, share a last name but not a family bond. Cities Natural Conclusion, the February release from decorated folk singer Rose Cousins, is personal and at times sad. She lightens the mood with witty banter at her live shows, of which Calgary gets a double dose this week. Thursday: The Courtneys with Lab Coast This is the second stop of an epic coast-to-coast tour for the Vancouver power pop trio and Sled Island fave.
