With deep sadness the family of Nick Del Guercio announce his passing on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the age of 93 years. Nick was born in Caposele, Avellino Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1952. He moved back to Italy in 1973 where he owned and operated a shoe store with his wife. He and his wife returned to Canada in 1982 to retire and be near their children in Calgary. Nick had a passion and special talent for gardening, a love of music and dancing, enjoyed socializing with family and friends, and travelling with his wife. Nick was dedicated to staying fit and healthy and would engage in a daily 10 km walk to and from Nose Hill Park - rain or shine! One of his greatest achievements was to risk immigrating to Canada - a country where he had no contacts and did not speak the language - in order to pursue a better life for himself and his family. While here, he sponsored and assisted many relatives so they too could pursue a better life. He was an amazing role model by having a positive outlook on life, always sporting a smile, quick with a joke, full of energy, while conveying his intentions to live a long life. The family would like to thank the staff at Wentworth Manor (both the Residence and The Court) for their dedicated assistance, friendship, and caring for our father. Nick is survived by his children, Rosa Del Guercio (Henry), Annette Vance (Bob) and Sonia Del Guercio; grandchildren, Rosario Frustaci (Marisa), Rosina Slisko (Danijel), Nicholas Frustaci and Jenessa Vance; great-grandchildren, Anton and Maximo Slisko, Gian Luca and Alessio Frustaci; siblings, Antonio Del Guercio (Josephine) and Maria Paciello; nieces and nephews, Pascal Del Guercio (Una), Rose Ryan (John), Angel Klapecki (Don), Frank Del Guercio, and all the children of the above. He was predeceased by his first wife Felicia Giordano, second wife Carmela Monte and his sibling Francesca Del Guercio. Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (corner of 4th Street & Northmount Dr. North West) on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum (4th Street & 31st Ave North West). If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.
