It is with broken hearts and a deep sense of loss that we say farewell to Joan “Joanie” Dubask who lived her life courageously and fiercely. Born in Winnipeg, MB, she spent her childhood and young adulthood surrounded by friends and family. This is where she met her husband of fifty years, Robert (Bob) Dubask, who to this day refers to her as "My Bride". Joan spent many years after this moving from province to province, from Victoria, BC to Calgary, AB where she has lived for the past thirty-seven years. Joan worked many jobs over her seventy years from florist to hospital candy striper, fashion stylist at Woodward’s to loans officer at the Bank of Montreal. Joan danced her way through the 80's and always had just the right pair of heels to go with her fabulous outfits whether she was on her way to a dazzling social event or on her way to a Rod Stewart concert with her daughter. For those of us who had the privilege to know her, we know she would rather we celebrated a life well lived than mourn a life passed. Joan bravely fought her battle with cancer with grace and dignity. Joanie is survived by her loving husband and high school sweetheart Robert (Bob) Dubask; her daughter Tracy Kohan ( nee: Dubask), and son- in- law Stephen Kohan; her two grandsons whom she loved and adored to the moon and back, Maxwell and Nickolas Kohan; her younger sister Naomi Jones ( nee Thagard) and brother- in- law Dwayne Jones; her niece Leah Stewart (nee Jones) and nephew Evan Jones and family; as well as, cousin Rev. Daniel “Danny” Thagard and family. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks, and her caring palliative nurse Carla Holt. As per Joanie’s wishes a private family gathering will be held. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, P.O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB, T1S 1S1, Telephone: (403) 995-4673, www.countryhospice.org. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Joan Dubask, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
