Jo Lewis of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the age of 93 years.

Jo was born in Winnipeg. She and her family enjoyed many years at the cottage at Lake of the Woods. She graduated from the University of Manitoba as a Dietician before meeting and marrying D. E. (Ed) Lewis. They had a long and loving marriage. They lived in Calgary except for a year in Australia while Ed worked for Imperial Oil. They had many hours travelling and playing golf together, both in Calgary and their home in San Diego. Jo was a gracious host and enjoyed entertaining her many friends and family. Jo liked travelling and adventure. At age 84 she found herself snaking through the back streets of Phnom Phen, Cambodia on a motorcycle in search of “just the perfect dress”. She lived her later years at the Manor Village at Garrison Woods with many long time friends and with the loving care and the support of her dear friend Ernie Crooks. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at the Manor and to the staff at Sarcee Carewest Hospice, who eased her final days with great compassion.

Jo is survived by her children, Diane Atkinson ( Michael) and David Lewis ( Maria); five grandchildren, Alison Atkinson ( Stewart Burgess), Sarah Borthwick (James), J. D. Lewis (Deana), Trevor Lewis (Chelsey) and Stephanie Lewis (James Robson) and three greatgrandchildren, Emily Borthwick, Elisabeth Atkinson Burgess and Anna Lewis; as well as sister-in-law Patience McCarten and many nieces and nephews. Jo was predeceased by her husband, Ed Lewis in 1999; parents, Dr. Daniel Alexander McCarten and Ella Goldthorpe and two older brothers, Dr. Robert J. McCarten and Dr. Alan B. McCarten.

Jo was our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was elegant, strong, loving, adventurous, modern, resilient and fun. She will be missed. Honouring her wishes there will be no formal funeral service but a gathering of family and friends at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
