With new luxury division, Builder of the Year can now meet the needs of all customers

Brookfield Residential and the luxury builder that joined the company less than two years ago, have proven to be a winning combination.

At this year’s Calgary Region SAM Awards, Brookfield Residential was crowned Builder of the Year. This is the top prize for companies that build single-family homes at the BILD (Building Industry Land Development) Cal- gary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards.

The winners of these awards, featuring a stylized bird, were announced at a gala event at the Telus Convention Centre on April 8.

SAM Awards recognize the top showings in home design, sales, marketing, renovation and land development. Builder of the Year is one of five Grand SAM Awards, considered the highest honours in the competition.

The others in this class include Hopewell Residential for Multi-Family Builder of the Year, Riverview Custom Homes for Builder of Merit, Renova Luxury Renovations for Renovator of the Year, and Timber Tech Truss for Partner of the Year.

“We are grateful, humbled and excited to win this award on behalf of our customers, trades, partners, and of course our amazing employees,” says Trent Edwards, Brookfield’s chief operating officer, Alberta.

On the Builder of the Year award, Allan Klassen, senior vicepresident Brookfield Residential, Calgary Homes, says “This is a real tribute to a great organization and great people.”

“I think it’s a reflection on a desire to do great work and build great homes and deliver great customer service,” he adds.

Contributing to Brookfield’s crown was the performance of its division Albi Luxury by Brookfield Residential.

Albi Homes, which has been building in Calgary since 1982, was acquired by Brookfield in late 2015.

Albi has a history of awards at the local, provincial and national levels of the residential industry.

This includes, most recently, earning both the Design Excellence Award and Marketing Excellence Award at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association National Awards for Housing Excellence.

Combining the strengths of Albi and Brookfield works, says Klassen, adding “We haven’t had our best day yet,” he says. “This is the tip of the iceberg.”

The company offers single-family homes and multi-family development built under the Brookfield Residential brand, as well.

With Albi, the company’s singlefamily homes now reach the luxury, semi-estate, move-up front attached garage, and laned segments of the market.

“Our goal is to have unbelievable product at an amazing value and with a great customer experience. The fact that we get to do it in a wide variety of product and price ranges is going to be a great opportunity for our group.” Edwards agrees.

“Albi provides us with that opportunity to have customers for life,” he says. “This was huge recognition that, not only do we have this opportunity, but (we have) ... the ability to build a great quality product for a customer at any point in their lives.”

Albi Luxury by Brookfield Residential builds in Tesoro in Tuscany, Valley Pointe Estates, Symons Gate, Aspen Rose Estates, The Rise in West Grove Estates, Artesia at Heritage Pointe, Auburn Bay, Legacy, Cranston’s Riverstone, and The Shores at Chestermere Lake.

Under the Brookfield Residential brand, single-family homes are available in Livingston, Symons Gate and Fireside.

Jayman Built was runner-up for the Builder of the Year award, and earned the same standing for Multi-Family Builder of the Year honour. The other finalists for Builder of the Year were Homes by Avi and Stepper Homes.

In addition to the top builder trophy, Brookfield won in four SAMs categories and led all companies with 22 entries placing as finalists.

For single-family new home awards, Albi Luxury by Brookfield Residential earned a trophy for a model displayed as a show home in the latest end of Tuscany.

The Tevera, a split-level model in Tesoro in Tuscany, won for Best New Home $425,000 to $484,999.

Brookfield’s other category wins came from The Kingston at Regatta for Best Apartment Style Condo 700 square feet to 899 square feet, The Linden for Best Villa/Duplex up to $374,999, and Albi Refresh for Best Website.

Along with being a home builder, Brookfield also has an arm devoted to community development.

Beyond Brookfield’s win for Tevera, Riverview Custom Homes and Treehouse Developments both had strong outings for single-family new home awards, winning two birds apiece. Treehouse’s awards were earned by inner-city submissions, the Urban Elegance in Altadore, and Parkside in Highland Park, both private residences.

Riverview won two of the three categories for single-family homes valued at more than $1 million, with its Infinity and Belvedere entries, private residences, as well.

The only other winner of a million dollar-plus category was Augusta Fine Homes, for the Westwood. This was one of two homes from Artesia at Heritage Pointe to win a best new home category, joining the Waterford by Homes by Avi.

Jayman Built picked up a best new home award for the Sonata in Cornerstone, while Douglas Homes won for the Mount Rundle in Sunset Ridge, and Ashton Luxury Living for a private residence dubbed the Luca.

Other birds for best new home categories went to McKee Homes for the Carlingford RT in the Airdrie community of Bayside, and private residence submissions, the Kingsley II by Crystal Creek Homes, and the Richmond in Richmond Park by Sagebrook Developments Inc.
