HOPEWELL RESIDENTIAL CROWNED MULTI-FAMILY BUILDER OF THE YEAR

A distinctive condo development in a choice location in an awardwinning community.

These factors, supported by excellent marketing, contributed to Hopewell Residential’s new title as Grand SAM Multi-family Builder of the Year. Hopewell won the award at BILD Calgary Region’s annual gala held April 8 at the Telus Convention Centre.

“It’s a very competitive segment of the marketplace, and there are a lot of competitors,” says Jeff Rust, vice-president of multi-family for Hopewell Residential. “It’s an honour and a privilege to walk away at the end of the evening with a Grand SAM.”

Hopewell Residential is the residential community development, multi-family and single-family construction arm of the Hopewell Group of Companies. It is based in Calgary and has expanded to Edmonton, Airdrie and Cochrane. Hopewell previously won Grand SAM Multi-family Builder of the Year in 2010, on the strength of its Copperfield community in the city’s southeast and its Chalet townhome project. Its Mahogany community, next to Copperfield, has been recognized at the local, provincial and national levels as community of the year.

Hopewell ended last week’s event with wins in two individual categories and 11 other finalist placements, all contributing to the overall Grand SAM award. Hopewell won silver gooses (the shape of the SAM trophies) for Best Online Marketing Campaign for Sandgate’s grand opening online campaign, and Best Town Homes up to $349,999 for Chalet’s P Plan in Copperfield.

“The team is fantastic,” Rust says of the well-rounded placements in areas including development, marketing and housing. “We’ve got a lot of great people here who are all really experts in their field. That really lends credibility to winning something like this.

Runners up for the overall top multi-family award were, in order, Jayman Built, Brookfield Residential, Cardel Lifestyles and Calbridge Homes.

Much of Hopewell’s successes were based on its Sandgate condo development in Mahogany, as well as Mahogany itself.

Sandgate is comprised of 306 apartment-style homes across four buildings and is located a twominute walk from Mahogany Lake and the beach, and across the street from Mahogany Village, where Sobeys recently opened a store.

“A lot of things really resonate about (Sandgate) with purchasers,” Rust says. “The overall esthetic of the project is unique. It really has a hotel feel when you walk through it. The hallways are not your typical hallways — they definitely provide a much higher level of sense of arrival for the owner when they come home or when they have guests over. Everything from the foyers to the entranceways to the little things. Having access to amenities makes a big difference, too.”

Occupancies are taking place in Sandgate’s first building and Building 2 is under construction with a third of its units sold.

Hopewell designed Mahogany to include multi-family homes as an important aspect of the community and of the wide choice and range of housing types provided in it, Rust says. And providing access to the star amenity attraction of the lake

for all the residents

“It’s (about) creating that balance of product offering that everybody has those access points, whether it’s the view or direct access right off your own property,” Rust says.
