Governments don’t have any money

-

Re: “Green Line needs help,” Editorial, April 15.

Once again, it seems that the editorial board needs a healthy reminder. Governments do not have any money to chip in for anything.

It’s the single, solitary taxpayer who gets hit up by all levels of government for money. Then, the governments appear to be the generous ones as they dole out the cash.

There is no money. Both the federal and provincial governments are running major deficits. So there is no money to hand out.

Oh, and remember, there is also that minor project for the new hockey arena still on the table also looking for money. And as a taxpayer who has been unable to afford going to a hockey game for some time, I say let the owners come up with the money.

If it makes such good business sense, let them pay for it as a business opportunity. Colin Pratt, Calgary
