ASSAD’S WIFE FACES LOSING BRITISH CITIZENSHIP
British MPs will formally demand Monday that Asma al-Assad be stripped of her U.K. citizenship over accusations that she helps spread propaganda for her husband, the Syrian president.
Assad, a former investment banker who married Bashar al-Assad in 2000, has more than 500,000 followers on her Instagram, Facebook and Telegram accounts which she uses to praise the Syrian regime’s “martyrs” and attack the West. Last weekend her Instagram account was used to respond to President Donald Trump’s air strikes against a Syrian airbase.
Liberal Democrat MPs will Monday send an official letter to the Home Office, calling for her citizenship to be revoked. They are also calling for a debate in the House of Commons next week.
