First cup final win for Canada rugby sevens

Canada made men’s rugby sevens history Sunday, winning a cup final on the World Rugby Sevens Series for the first time. The Canadians did it the hard way at the Singapore Sevens, defeating No. 4 New Zealand 26-14 and No. 3 England 17-5 before dispatchin­g the fifth-ranked U.S. 26-19 in the final. Series leader South Africa and No. 2 Fiji were upset in the quarter-finals. The tournament victory came in Canada’s 140th event on the circuit. The win moved Canada up two places from ninth in the overall standings after eight stops on the 10-event circuit.
