The midway comes alive Thursday with lights, dancing and fire in IgNITE, a one-night-only event until 1 a.m. More highlights from Anna Junker:

1 Ride All Night

The Calgary Stampede has a special package this year for $32. If you want to ride, dance and party all night long, this is the perfect package to get you in the Stampede mood. It includes park admission and a Ride All Night wristband, which gives you access to all 21 midway rides until the park closes. What better way to take in the amazing view of the midway lit up by fire and sound than taking it a little slower on the Giant Wheel or the Wave Swinger. Or, go the fast way and watch the lights and fire blur into one on the Polar Express or Spin Out. If you’re one of the first 10,000 people, you can grab a commemorative T-shirt to remember this one-of-a-kind night.

2 Beakerhead

Who doesn’t love a cannon shooting 10-foot flames? What about a roaming hippo art car? Thanks to Beakerhead, there will be that and more lighting up this year’s midway. There will be interactive art exhibits such as the Lumbering Contraption, which is basically a hamster wheel on steroids, the Tin Fish and Fire Lilies at Fire Island. You can also catch the fire dancers who will be walking throughout the Beakerhead area.

3 Beat Drop

With a huge stage set up in the midst of the midway rides, Calgary’s top DJs will be blasting beats for Sneak-a-Peek. The DJ lineup includes Smalltown DJs, DJ Heebz, DJ C-SIK, DJ PHNM, YUNG NINO, DJ SoniDEF and DJ GOODBAR. There will be speakers throughout the IgNITE part of the midway and some rides will have sound systems that will be blasting the music to ride-goers.

4 Silent Disco

Want the option to tune in to three different DJs and dance the night away? You can, thanks to the Silent Disco at the CocaCola Stage. Disco-goers who have IgNITE passes will be provided with headphones allowing you to switch between listening to three different DJs while coloured LED lights will let you know what your friends are listening to. This will be an experience for those dancing the night away.

5 Infusion Artistry Bollywood

This dance troupe combines Bollywood, bhangra and hip-hop for an exhilarating show. During Sneak-a-Peek they will be performing at the International Pavilion in the Big Four Building from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
