The final stretch of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth is upon us, and so is a heat warning for Calgary. That means it’s supposed to be HOT HOT HOT. It’s important to stay hydrated, so we went hunting through the crowded grounds to find the top five thirst-quenchers on the sizzling Stampede pavement.

CHILLI CHILL CHILL

The Chilli Chill Chill is simple but oh, so satisfying. Found at Lemon Heaven, which has 11 locations across the grounds, this iced lemonade drink is infused with a hot chili pepper. It’s quite the refreshing drink, if you like a little bit of spice. I could definitely feel the heat of the chili, but it went surprisingly well with the lemonade. I would definitely get this drink again, especially for the extra kick from the pepper.

NITRO COFFEE

I LOVE coffee. As a journalist, I think I have more coffee in me than blood. When I looked for an iced coffee to try, Cheyenne Coffee inside the BMO Centre caught my eye with their promotion for cold brew coffee that is steeped and chilled for 16 hours and contains nitrogen. I drank it black, and it felt really nice to drink such a cold drink in an air-conditioned building.

MINI DONUT- CHATA

Family Fruit Stand must have the most wacky and wonderful creations for Stampede-goers. I headed there for the Pie Shake, only to find it was SOLD OUT. Instead, I got the Mini Donut-Chata, an ice-cold cinnamon Dolce rice milk, toffee bits, cinnamon toast crunch cereal, caramel sauce and whipped cream. It also comes with a mini doughnut ice pop on top. So, if you’re looking for a super sweet drink that also comes with a snack, this is the drink for you. Deliciousness in a cup.

OREO MILKSHAKE

A classic. Enjoying a nice cold milkshake on a hot day is always a crowd pleaser. The Milkshakes stand on the midway has flavours available for everyone such as chocolate, vanilla and strawberry and premium milkshakes like Oreo. Obviously, I got Oreo because you can never go wrong with that. The milkshakes are handspun right in front of you, just step back because it does spray. Topped with whipped cream and Oreo bits, this sweet drink will leave you saying ahhhhh.

CRAFT BEER

If you’re over 18, what goes down better on a hot day than a cold beer? On the lower level of the Big Four, you can taste locally brewed craft beer which changes daily. I tried an IPA from Calgary brewer Tool Shed.

The best part is, the beer is tasting size and totally free! You can come back for more until you are satisfied.

Consuming all five drinks one after another is not recommended. Trust me. But if you wish to do so, map out the nearest bathrooms ahead of time. Your bladder will thank you.
