Two military personnel face sexual assault charges
EDMONTO N Two members of the Canadian military are facing sexual assault charges in unrelated incidents that occurred in Alberta, including one that dates back to 2007.
The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service charged a man Wednesday with sexual assault related to an incident involving a civilian at a private residence in Edmonton in January.
Military police launched their investigation April 19 after a complaint was made against the member of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment based at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton. The incident has been moved to the civilian justice system.
Mark Sribney was charged with one count of sexual assault and was scheduled to make his first appearance in provincial court Aug. 24.
A military spokesman said Sribney will continue to be employed in his staff role within his unit during the legal proceedings.
On Thursday, military investigators charged another man in relation to a reported sexual assault at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in 2007 against a member of the Canadian Forces.
Cpl. Regis Tremblay, a member of the Joint Personnel Support Unit in Valcartier, Que., faces one count of sexual assault.
A possible court martial date and location were still to be determined.
“The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service investigates all allegations of sexual assault in a thorough and impartial manner,” Lt.- Col. Francis Bolduc, commanding officer of the agency, said in a news release.
“This charge reflects our ongoing commitment to support and protect victims and help prosecute persons responsible for sexual offences.”
