PEACE, & QUIET SPACE

Boulder Creek Estate builds on these qualities

- JOSH SKAPIN

Jan Greik and Lori Collier- Greik can appreciate the difference more land can make.

Not just in yard size. They’ll be enjoying that end of it, too. But they were attracted to the type of garage supported by a larger lot.

It’s one of the reasons the couple and their nine-year-old daughter Porsche moved to Boulder Creek Estates, a community by Highfield Land Management in the hamlet of Langdon, just east of Calgary city limits.

The house they purchased is by Broadview Homes. Stepper Homes builds in the community, as well.

Both have show homes open on Boulder Creek Crescent.

The current phase looks out on the scenic 18-hole Boulder Creek Golf Course, and has west-facing lots stretching 50 to 72 feet wide.

Prices in the community currently start from the $560,000s, including the lot and tax.

Jan and Lori, who were living in Calgary, started their search for a new place within the city.

While many of the homes had what they were looking for, some were short of one key thing.

“They couldn’t fit my full-sized truck in the garage,” says Jan, who works as an elevator mechanic.

“That was a deciding factor right there.”

It was a different story at Boulder Creek Estates, where their lot, just shy of 10,000 square feet, fit a home with more than sufficient space for the family’s vehicles.

As Jan describes, their garage is a “four-car minimum.”

It will contain Jan and Lori’s trucks, who have an F450 and F350 respectively, and a collection of four motorcycles.

The garage also has a shop at the back, giving Jan the space to tinker on these motorcycles.

During the winter months, they’ll tuck their boat in the garage, too.

Having a larger yard will be nice, too.

“My backyard is 50 feet by 70 feet,” says Jan, adding that at his previous home, “the lot was slightly bigger than that and the house was on it.”

Their house through Broadview is a customized version of the Hudson II floor plan, measuring 2,638 square feet above grade. Jan says its impressed with its spacious bedrooms and kitchen.

“My wife likes to entertain, cook and bake, and having a huge island to do that at was big,” Jan says.

Expansive lots were only part of what attracted the family to Langdon.

The family was also ready for a change of pace.
