The Swerve Advent Calendar opens the door to A Christmas Carol, Once Upon a Christmas and Zoolights. Plus, Alberta Theatre Projects celebrates some pig—wait, that’s some pig—with Charlotte’s Web, and seasonal craft sales ramp up.

A Christmas Carol

It takes two hours for Ebenezer Scrooge (played by Stephen Hair for the 24th year) to learn the importance of generosity; Theatre Calgary knows it intrinsically. Donate your change to the Toonies for Turkeys campaign at the theatre to help stock the Calgary Food Bank’s cupboards for the holidays. Until Sunday, Dec. 24 at Max Bell Theatre, Arts Commons. theatrecalgary.com.

Once Upon a Christmas

Heritage Park’s seasonal event includes the traditional—wagon rides, Christmas carols, Santa, gingerbread-cookie decorating— while keeping things fresh with new holiday friends like alpacas. They may not have any experience guiding Santa’s sleigh, but they are certainly properly equipped for winter weather. Saturdays and Sundays until Sunday, Dec. 17; plus Friday, Dec. 22 and Saturday, Dec. 23 at Heritage Park, 1900 Heritage Dr. S.W. 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. heritagepark.ca.

Calgary Zoolights

Unlike alpacas, many animals at the Calgary Zoo are ill-suited to winter, which means they are currently spending their time indoors. They are replaced by glowing displays, Santa and the similarly magical characters from Alice in Wonderland. Until Saturday, Jan. 6 (closed Monday, Dec. 25) at Calgary Zoo, 210 St. George’s Dr. N.E. 6-9 p.m. calgaryzoo.com.
