Charles Dickens wrote the original novella in 1843, making the classic story 174 years old.

This season marks Theatre Calgary’s 31st production of A Christmas Carol. This is the seventh year for this particular version of the production. Including 2017’s, there have been seven different stage adaptation­s at Theatre Calgary.

More than 600,000 people have seen the show at Theatre Calgary over the last 30 years.

This is the 24th season for Stephen Hair to portray Scrooge but his 29th in the show. (He started off playing Charles Dickens and has also played Jacob Marley).

Tiny Tim will be played by eight-year-old Tia Rose Woodruff. This is her first time performing in A Christmas Carol. There are 24 actors in the cast, nine of which are the young company who are supervised by one chaperone. This year, nine performers are new to the cast. More than 275 actors have appeared in one or more of the 30 production­s. There are 11 members of the creative team (directors, dramaturge/designers/choreograp­hers), and 10 backstage and technical crew. There are over 80 costumes and approximat­ely 30 wigs. Eleven traditiona­l carols are sung in the current adaptation.

Since inception in 1997, the Toonies for Turkeys fundraisin­g campaign has raised $1.8 million for the Calgary Food Bank.
