TOUCH OF ZEN ADDS A COSY FEELING

Avalon Master Builder opts for homey decor with its new Cameo and Roma show homes in Redstone

Home decor is huge on the web, and one of the big reasons why is because sites such as Pinterest can inspire creative ideas that use everyday materials.

They’re items that are accessible and, in some cases, already inside the home. In other cases, it may spur a quick trip to an antique shop or thrift store for some vintage pieces that give that space an extra layer of character and charm.

When Avalon Master Builder decided how to dress a new show home — a townhomes in Redstone — staff went, as it’s termed today, thrifting.

The builder decorated with items purchased from secondhand stores.

People visiting the Cameo floor plans showcased at the builder’s Zen Redstone development will find the design scheme to be a departure from the more modern touches typically presented in show homes today.

In many ways, it’s a cosy, familiar feeling. The warmth of crocheted blankets from grandparents, circa-1960s dining room furniture and a fun spoon collection tug on sentimental heartstrings. Funky throwback patterns give the interior design fan something different to think about, too.

Zen Redstone is part of the community of Redstone, which is master-planned by Qualico Communities and accessed off Metis Trail N.E.

Avalon has constructed several Zen developments in locations in and around Calgary, with a common thread being an emphasis on energy efficiency. For the buyer, the result is often lower monthly utility costs, which contributes to the overall affordability of the home.

At Zen Redstone, each townhome comes with a fenced yard, making them ideal for dog owners.

They also work for large families. The Cameo is one of the floor plans that can fit up to five bedrooms, with three on the top level and two in an optional developed basement.

In the show home, however, it’s displayed with two bedrooms on the top floor and a third in the basement.

Both second floor bedrooms are well-sized and have a boxed-out space that gives them added visual interest. One has an ensuite and both have spacious closets.

Overall, the townhome reaches up to 1,633 square feet.

The main level will win over people who like to host get-togethers with friends and family. It’s an open- concept space anchored by a large rear-facing L-shaped kitchen, which has stainless steel appliances including an over-therange microwave, and a sink under a large window that looks into the backyard.

The show home also demonstrates the optional central island. Adding to the substantial counters, it’s a handy second option for chopping, dicing, stirring and seasoning.

The balance of the main level includes a central dining area and welcoming front-facing great room featuring generously sized windows.
