Milena Radakovic was already a veteran of trade show marketing when she bought Nexus Exhibits from her boss, Brian Nelson, in 2014.

Producing attractive displays remains the major thrust of her business, which in recent months has taken some exciting new approaches.

Radakovic and her staff are largely focused on agriculture and energy, which have helped Nexus become a leader in portable, modular and custom exhibits.

Its services include design, custom fabrication, in-house printing, installation, maintenance, shipping and storage.

Its clients include the Saskatoon Airport Authority, Travel Saskatchewan and Saskatoon Tourism for whom Nexus built a booth for the World Routes show in Chicago. For the rollout of a new ATCO Group division it produced a new logo and brand guidelines.

Other examples of its trade show exhibits include custom designs for Calgary Heath Trust, Canadian Granola Growers Association, Nureva, City of Calgary Leisure Centres and SAIT, which has been a customer for more than 20 years.

A slowdown in the exhibit business led her to launch a new business line. Nexus Decor designs professional office environments, using signs and displays fabricated in Canada.

Reception areas and waiting rooms can be used to impress visitors by displaying a company’s services and corporate philosophy through a variety of interior signage including laser cut lettering, back-lit graphics on modular dividers or wall mounted, or large graphics posters along corridors such as those in Bow Valley College where Nexus supplied interchangeable graphics on suspended wire hangings.

For Royop Development’s new offices it provided print production for the two photo display walls, designed by Abugov Kaspar Architects, giving a glimpse of the company’s history and significant projects.

Radakovic has also become the Western Canada representative for two innovative charger stations that double as powerful sales tools.

Her Nexus Decor brochure illustrates the use of the freestanding Classic tower power charging station in a dental office, used to graphically tell messages while patients are in the reception/waiting area.

The larger Smart station carries a touch screen, ideal for restaurants, bars and shopping malls to promote special offerings and events, but can also keep customers interested with videos, news and weather networks or to sell space to a variety of vendors.

A passionate member of EO, she is a long-serving member of the Calgary chapter and has served on its board for the past two years and is currently forum co-chair.

It was while moderating an EO Summit that she met Geoff Burton, owner of a printing company in Winnipeg. That led to a partnership between Nexus and Rinella to allow Radakovic to expand her business into Manitoba.

As president of Nexus and with a family that keeps her busy, Radakovic has a lot on her plate, but besides EO finds the time to be an ambassador of the Calgary chapter of Women in Leadership Foundation, and a keen member of Women’s Business Enterprises.
