When Jones Lang LaSalle Commercial Real Estate (JLL), the world’s second largest publicly traded real estate brokerage, decided in 2012 to open a Calgary office it aggressively sought out experienced agents.

The local JLL office is housed in the historic, six-storey Hollinsworth Building that was integrated into the east tower of Bankers Hall, where 25 agents and administrative staff work. The latest addition is industrial agent Chris Saunders, whose business card reads senior vicepresident, industrial.

Saunders said the co-operation found within JLL’s industrial team attracted him to the local office, where there is no competition for listings, leases or sales.

The team has lots of experience in the Calgary market. Executive vice-president Marshall Toner, Ryan Haney, Carey Koroluk, Lindsay Syhlonyk and Saunders, responsible for a good deal of the city’s industrial business, have many deals on their plate.

CN Calgary Logistics Park is a good example of the properties the JLL industrial team represents. Located in Conrich to the northeast of the city, the 170 acres of fully serviced land has available lots from seven acres and up.

JLL has leased a 403,000square-foot warehouse to Whirlpool, a 205,000-square-foot facility to Princess Auto and sold 18 acres to intermodal haulers H & R Transport.

JLL represents the 106-acre Crosspointe Industrial Park by Hopewell Development near the CrossIron Mills mall where only 40 acres remain available. The Cross Roads Commercial Park, a Prime Development property of 160 acres along Highway 566 is zoned for mixed-use relating to industrial and light retail.

Within city limits Beedie Development Group purchased 5.8 acres in Melcor’s The District on Country Hills Blvd. N.E. for Evolve at District, a 128,000-square-foot building to house industrial condo bays for sale. JLL has already sold four averaging about 10,000 square feet in size.

JLL Calgary also has sales teams specializing in capital markets and downtown and suburban office. Its recent offers include the former Scotia Bank call centre on Sunridge Boulevard N.E. The 117,500-squarefoot building and excess land, comprising more than 18 acres, is available for retail and industrial development.

Another leasing opportunity is the former SAIT Trade Training Centre in Mayland Heights at Centre Avenue N.E. purchased by Hungerford Properties. The six-acre site has a 97,000-squarefoot building for four units with on-site vehicle and trailer parking available.
