A Calgary man is pleading for the public’s help in finding his stolen race car.

The orange and black Baby Grand race car, which has the number 41 painted on both sides, was stolen last Wednesday morning in an industrial area on 32 Avenue N.E., along with a trailer.

The car had been inside the trailer, which police found two days later by itself in Bowness.

“It looks like a NASCAR almost, but like two-thirds to scale,” said owner Shawn Deehan.

Deehan has owned the car for about six years and often takes it to Medicine Hat, Hythe and Wetaskiwin to race, as those are the only three places in Alberta where he can do so.

He said he’s filed a police report but hasn’t heard anything about the car’s whereabouts.

“It’s painful,” he said of not knowing whether he’ll get it back. “We don’t make money racing. I just go out there to have fun. It’s just a hobby.”

The trailer had also been used to store Deehan’s race suit and helmet, which were gone by the time police found it.

Deehan and his father-in-law have spent countless hours in the garage and on the track over the years working on cars together, said his wife Corrine, adding that getting the car back is important to the whole family because of its sentimental value.

The front half of the car is black while the back half is orange and it has a FJ100 engine in it. The number 41 appears on the roof, the driver’s side and the passenger’s side in blue. “You can’t miss the 41,” Deehan said.

“To replace these cars, like to buy a brand new one, you’re probably looking at $20,000 or $25,000 or something like that.”

He is asking anyone with information or who may have spotted the car to contact police, or respond to let him know through Kijiji.
