ADVICE ON MUSIC BIZ

SoundOff offers some insight

- ERIC VOLMERS

Local musicians and music enthusiasts will get some insider’s insight into the business side of the music industry over the next couple of days, as conferences take place in both Calgary and Banff.

SoundOff, in its fourth year, runs Thursday to Saturday. It brings together performances by local bands and talks by industry experts, who will share knowledge about international touring, radio support and management.

The festival and conference also attracts agents, promoters, publicists and others to the city to check out Calgary’s talent. This year, 44 local artists of various genres will be performing at various venues throughout the city. Participating acts include 36?, Ghostkeeper and Windigo (Thursday at Nite Owl and the HiFi Club); Wolf Pack, Transit and Keston (Friday at the Commonwealth Bar); Clinton St. John, FOONYAP and Mariel Buckley (Saturday afternoon at the Ironwood.) Industry panels are free and open to all ages and will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Meanwhile, country star Paul Brandt will be among the participants in The Gathering Music Festival, which is connected to the annual Gathering Summit.
