BABY BOOM

-

Young men returning to Canada following the Second World War helped bring a significant number of new children into the world. This dramatic increase in the number of births from 1947 to 1966 in Canada is called the baby boom. By 1945, the birth rate had risen to 24.3 per 1,000 inhabitants; by 1946 it had jumped to 27.2 per 1,000 inhabitants, and it remained between 27 and 28.5 per 1,000 until 1959, after which it gradually declined. In 2008-2009, the birth rate was 11.3.
